I had the same problem with my DL as well. My conditional expired in June and I submitted the NOA with all the requirements. I then received a letter saying that I had not sent sufficient evidence. I ended up calling DMV in Sacramento (I'm in L.A.) and the woman sent me an temporary 60 day renewal of my DL, and requested that I resend the required evidence of my legal stay here (the extension letter and copy of front and back of my GC, even though expired).

60 days passed and nothing. I called again and she was suprised, however she did say that because people within that 1-year extension pending removal weren't as plentiful as the rest of applicants, there were only 2 people assigned to that department, considering that in less than a year when conditions are successfully removed, we'd be back anyway armed with our new cards. I don't know if what she said was true or not, but in a way it makes sense - but is no excuse for them (workers at your local DMV) to feign ignorance to the point that you have to drive 110 miles just to get that stamp in your passport.

I sent the requirements yet again but didn't get anything at all. In the meantime, in my wallet I'd carry a copy of the extension and my GC and my expired DL - just in case. By the time I was about to call them again, my removal was successful and I got my card in the mail three days ago :)

So, having less than a month of DL validity left, I decided to skip the mailing part. Instead, I planned to visit all DMVs within 30min drive (three or four of them). Nice surprise - I got my license extended in the very first one, with no problems whatsoever. YAY!

I got my license in the mail yesterday.

It expires in 2011, on my birthday. Even though the letter they wouldn't accept only extended my legal presence by a year, and the stamp they did accept extended it by only six months, they gave me a license good for a year and a half. ( Did they add the letter and the stamp together? )

So I give up any hope that DMV knows what it is doing on any basis that would ensure accuracy and consistency. :bonk:

I'm just glad I got it, though my photo is a fright. That's the flip side to driving 110 miles to USCIS, driving 110 miles back, and throwing down with the DMV. I'm rather wild-eyed in the photo and my hair is sticking up on the sides of my head from running my hands through it too much while being frustrated by the clerk. I am grinning ear to ear though. No surprise there - that's a big grin of relief. ;)

Griffon64, I am confused as to why your original drivers licence was only valid for one year? I am also in Cali (the bay area) and when I got my licence it is valid for 10 years. I am also from SA by the way
