Went to SSN Office after receiving GC, Name not matching INS database

Wife's GC arrived yesterday. Yay!

We went to the SSN office today wanting to update the status of the SSN to remove "Valid with DHS Authorization" by showing the GC.

We were hoping to get a new SSN card w/o restrictions, however the SSN rep said that the Name of the GC holder is not matching with the INS database.

The database is still showing my wife's single name. :blink:

We were married in May and applied for the AOS EAD/AP in June.

AOS (GC), EAD and AP shows her married name.

It seemed a bit odd that we were sent the GC and yet the INS database still have her single name.

Has this happend to anyone?

We received the GC yesterday and it has a valid date since 12/5/08.

The SSN rep was thinking that we came in to the SSN office too soon and should wait for about two weeks.

Weird.

Try again right after the New Year. It DOES take a couple of weeks for the DHS to update its records. Obviously, as she already has the GC and a SSN, there is no rush.

happend to me also when i got ead and went to the office...my account was not verified and they hat to wait for the update from INS

when u have good luck it need 2 weeks..i waited 6 weeks and got it today:-)

Hi!

We we're on the same boat, sigh**but in my case i used my EAD card to apply for SSN and unluckily its been a month and 2 days and haven't receive my SSN card yet!grrrr....the lady who assisted me told me that i be getting it through mail maximum of 3 weeks!..i am really saddened by this..

go back to the office and ask her to print it out and send it manuell..that is what they did in my case after 3 weeks waiting and i had the ssn after 3 weeks later....

I agree! I did that too and they gladly obliged to give me a certification stating my valid SSN and my married name in it, while you wait for them to mail out the actual card to you. It's not your fault and you did your part so nothing to be upset about. You already have your SSN and that's what you need really.

Just got my EAD last week, I did not go to get my SSN yet. I would like to know if are ask to go back if they can't find your name in their system or they just ask you to leave the forms and the requirements. I'm planning to go in SSA office this Monday.

when i was there the first time they told me my account is not verified so they have to wait that the ins updated my account and that they see my ead is not a fake.so they put my informations in the computer there ....file the form give them the form and they will give the details in it and look..maybe all is fine at ur case...dont forget passport and ead
