Costco: Sales are slowing

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Costco Wholesale Corp. reported Thursday that fiscal first-quarter net income was about flat, undercut by pretax charges, with its finance chief warning that sales are slowing even as bargain-hunting shoppers turn to the warehouse stores for deals in a downbeat economy.

Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti also said that the No.1 U.S. wholesale club won't earn the 75 cents a share Wall Street is predicting for the company's current quarter ending in February. He added that it was too hard to predict if Costco would earn the $3.01 a share analysts' expect for its fiscal year.

"We haven't seen sales improve," Galanti told analysts in a conference call. "The trend during the quarter was lower, not higher."

Or pay $40/year for the 'privilage'...

Depending on how much you buy, the savings can be substantially more.

This news is troubling. So far, the video game industry hasn't seen a drop in sales...
