SAYREVILLE —Authorities used a tracking dog to hunt down a man who allegedly tried to rob a convenience store at gunpoint Saturday morning.

The would-be holdup man had fled empty-handed after scuffling with the store's owner, police said.

Kareem Neal, 20, was arrested on robbery, aggravated assault and weapons charges after he allegedly attempted to hold up Reddy's Convenience Store on Route 35.

Neal entered the store at about 9:20 a.m. and asked for a certain brand of cigar, Detective Sgt. David Lasko said. When the owner turned around to face him, Neal allegedly pointed the gun and demanded cash from the register.

The alleged robber then walked around the counter, still pointing the gun.

But when he approached the register, the owner pushed the machine off the counter and pushed Neal away, Lasko said. Neal then headed to the exit, but the owner cut him off, leading to a scuffle outside the store.

Neal escaped after striking the owner in the face with his gun, but not before the store owner had pulled off the robber's jacket, police said.

The robber also dropped his gun during the scuffle.

After responding and calling in a New Jersey State Police tracking dog, Sayreville police tracked Neal's scent to a home on Zieglar Terrace, about a quarter-mile away from the store, Lasko said.

Neal was arrested and taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick, where he was held in lieu of $250,000 cash-only bail.

The resident of the home where Neal was found was believed to be an acquaintance, but was not charged, Lasko said.

The owner of the store was not injured except for a scrape on his nose.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
