1 - From your experience, what you've heard from most woman, what's the average, if it's not a scheduled C-section, how long does it take for a woman to give birth? I mean, the contractions started, it's time to go to the hospital, after being at the hospital how long?

Cuz Charles says he's only going to the hospital when the baby is being born, that he won't be there during the entire time because it takes forever. It was decided already that he won't be in the delivery room, btw, for several reasons, and I want to make clear that I'm ok with it (him not wanting to see the blood and all, not with him not wanting to be there with me during the rest of the process), so no jumping on him would be appreciated.

Yeah when I told her charles wouldn't she asked if she could, and she got all excited and said i could call her at 2 am, whenever and she'd go pick me up if I needed to.

Have friends that were done in less than 5 hours and even one that only went thru 1 hour of labor! Myself, 36 hours of feeling like an elephant was sitting on me! Went the all natural route! It is a wonderful experience no matter how long or how short!

I voted 7.5 to 10 hours.

I have typically heard 8-10 hours that it took for family/friends of mine.

I don't have children of my own yet, so the second answer is obvious.

And, if your boss wants to come into the room you two must have a pretty darn good relationship. I am sure she wouldn't be offended if you cuss a little since she WANTS to be there.

i wouldn't say a good relationship except a good work relationship. we're not friends. i think she feels sorry for me because i'm all alone here.

The average labour for first time mothers is 15-16 hours.

Mine was 16 and a half hours. Didn't feel a thing due to having an epidural.

Hmm...I've had friends go anywhere from an hour to 36!!!!

With my oldest it was 12 hours, no drugs, and it sucked.

With my second one it was 18 hours, epidural, and it sucked

If you don't want to be alone and you won't mind having your boss there, then why not? The key is you have to be comfortable with her there. This is a stressful time as it is, so only you can decide if alone is better than having her there.

I agree, it depends how comfortable you feel with your boss being there. Don't choose her just because there is no one else. Does Charles not have any family that you'd feel comfortable with coming in and supporting you? Are there no close friends within a decent distance that you can have on standby?
