I had my test and passed back in August. Was informed that they would need my/our original file before being able to send me the invitation to the oath ceremony. Well ... I waited until the end of September and then went to see them at our local office. I was informed that they had found the file but that it hadn't yet been passed to the officer for signing off ... but that I would most likely have the oath ceremony in December.

Still no invite!

So ... do I do as my hubby wishes and bother them again? Or do I do as I feel like and wait until after the holidays?

It's not as if this is holding me back in any way, I have the 10 year GC.

Still .. it's a pretty long wait from August to December!

Make Info-Pass appointment to see what's going on.

They may forgot your case until you show up.

I had my interview Oct 15 in Fairfax VA! Everything was fine, BUT there was this extra file!! So they had to get this "extra" file from their central holding facility in Nebraska! The interviewer said he could give me no time estimate on how long it would take. So i got the N-652 naturalization Interview results. It stated at the very bottom that if after 120 days you have not heard anything, you have the right to request a hearing before an immigration officer if ur application is denied, or before the US district court if USCIS has not made a determination.

I heard back just a few days ago, my oath ceremony Dec 15---2 months from my interview. Normally the fairfax VA office does interview/oath the same day! best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
