sorry,...continued... I sent the above inadvertently, ..we did not have the second copy as I thought they sent out two for folks who travel heavily; anyway I asked the immigration officer why he needed the second one, he said "to advise Washignton your wife is back in the country", he asked us several times if we did not have it handy...we did not but I mentioned it was nowhere stated we needed to carry the two...he said "I'm not going to penalize you if your were not properly informed",,, so he admitted her into the country...I was very thankful but I'd like to share this so that if you use your AP you should carry the two copies...

Yeah, I've read the same thing on the internet too. However, when I arrived back into the US I only showed one of the copies to all IO's and none of them asked for the other copy. I suggest to bring all the copies you have (usually 2) but not to get scared if you accidentily forgot one.

They keep one copy and stamp the other and return it to you. What I really don't get about this system is what you do if you travel on it a second time, seeing how once you've submitted a copy at the border, you only have one copy for the next time you travel. We made a few photocopies of it just in case this happens and we don't get his GC in a few months, but I don't even know if that will help. We have them in the safe with the two originals from USCIS.

That is exactly the question I was asking my wife this morning...what do you do the second time around? I had a copy but it never crossed my mind to offer it to the immigration officer...I've scanned my copy and have it accessible in my e-mail so I can print it out anywhere I happen to be.
