Hi guys! :) I would like to seek advice from you.

We went to SSoffice and unfortunately they didn't issue me a SSN. I brought with me my marriage contract, birthcertificate and passport with visa with my MAIDEN NAME on it . I'm K3 by the way (but my name on my passport and visa is my MAIDEN NAME) .The lady there told me that I need to wait for my permanent resident visa to be approved with my new name or MARRIED NAME before they can issue me a SSN. Once the permanent resident visa is ok, they can issue SSN with my MARRIED NAME on it.

Also, Do I need an SSN before I can get a driver's license?

Lastly, can I work immediately once I have an EAD?

Advise pls

Thank you very very much.

You can get your SS card and work once you get your EAD or GC.

Some people have been able to get a drivers license with a notice of rejection og SSN from SSA.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

What state are you from?

My wife was K3 as well. She was able to get a license (Texas) with:

I94 with (18) months remaining time

Passport (1 ID)

K3 visa (2nd ID)

She filled out and signed a form (affidavit) at the DMV office saying she is ineligible for a SS number due to immigration status-they had the forms at the counter.

The SS office morons would NOT give her a letter saying she was inelgible, we asked for one and they refused

Louisiana, Texas, and Colorado all allow K3 visaholders to legally drive. Some states do not.

By our experience -

You can apply for SS card after the EAD card arrives

You can work after the SS card arrives, we went to the SS office the day after the EAD card came in and the SS card arrived about (2) weeks later

We did the name change in the passport after we got married, it was 30 bucks at the local immigration office in her home country. SO.....the visa was issued in her married name. It appeared at the time that this was the best thing to do, as all of our documents - visa, passport, EAD, green card, and SS card, are all in her married name.

She did not get a new passport, they did the name change with the immigration stamp on one of the passport pages.
