Husband just got K-3 approved...now what?

Hi,

After reading many posts, I guess my husband and I have had it pretty easy. After getting married in Sept. 07, I moved to Italy with him and lived here for the last year. Here in Italy, things were processed quickly it seems since he got his K-3 visa last week (11-25-08), only after 6 months from when we first started the process! Now my question is what next? We just found out that even though we checked the box to be processed for a social security number immediately, it won't happen. Even though we asked the lady behind the window who did the "interview" about it and she replied that it would be mailed to him within a month of entering the States. After numerous searches and calls, we discovered that once we move to the States he has to file the I-765 form to get employment authorization, then once that is approved, he can go to the local ssa office to apply for a number. Is this correct so far? If that is approved, will it be valid for two years like the visa?

Also, I am a bit confused about applying for his green card. Most sites say that after arriving we can file the I-485, is that correct? If so, we will wait until September 2009 to file so we won't have to worry about the "conditions" with our marraige being less than 2 years.

Thanks for any help and I apologize for my ignorance....it's just that every site says something different and everyone we call (who actually picks up the phone) either has no idea how to answer or gives us a different answer than the next!

PLEASE NEVERMIND THIS POST. Immediately after posting, we found out that my husband did NOT receive a K-3 visa, but Immigrant visa IV category CR1 !!!!! No one at the consulate told us anything ever about a CR1 !!!!

Yeah you did DCF and will get CR-1. IR-1 if you were married more than 2 years. GC and SS card should come in the mail within a month or so of arrival in the US.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

Thanks! We still can't believe that all this time, no one ever mentioned the CR-1!! The entire time we thought we were just applying for a K-3 visa! But we aren't complaining!!!!! We are celebrating yet again with our new found discovery! This site is fabulous for people going through this process....it is very nerve-racking and exhausting!!!!

There is nothing left for you to do except Remove Conditions 2 years after your husband enters the US. Other than that, wait for his SS card and green card in the mail.
