Hi All

So I have my EAD and Social Security card...

my international student advisor has a copy as well and asked me when I would like to cancel my F1 status

when is the best time to do that?

I think I want to do it immediately as I do not want to be required to enroll in another 12 units next semester

opinions? advice?

I THINK you need to remain in status until your green card has been approved. If that is correct (someone will pipe up if I am wrong) then you need to keep your F-1 status until you get your green card. That is what my int'l advisor told me.

USCIS
August 12, 2008 - petition sent
August 16, 2008 - NOA-1
February 10, 2009 - NOA-2
178 DAYS FROM NOA-1

NVC
February 13, 2009 - NVC case number assigned
March 12, 2009 - Case Complete
25 DAY TRIP THROUGH NVC

Medical
May 4, 2009

Interview
May, 26, 2009

POE - June 20, 2009 Toronto - Atlanta, GA

Removal of Conditions
Filed - April 14, 2011
Biometrics - June 2, 2011 (early)
Approval - November 9, 2011
209 DAY TRIP TO REMOVE CONDITIONS

Citizenship

April 29, 2013 - NOA1 for petition received

September 10, 2013 Interview - decision could not be made.

April 15, 2014 APPROVED. Wait for oath ceremony

Waited...

September 29, 2015 - sent letter to senator.

October 16, 2015 - US Citizen

Tavo adjusted from a student visa - he will give you good advise.

I know...I rule B)

Nope, you are in a legal limbo, you are neither an Intl Student or a Permanent Resident, you are a foreign spouse waiting to adjust status. Besides that, immigration doesn't have a really good way to track it since after months of receiving my GC, the International Programs Office in my university still thought I was F-1 with OPT and requested proof of employment :P I just kindly told them to f..k off, kidding! I told them that I was a green card holder and didn't need an OPT anymore.

Like Tavo said, you are in limbo land. You are neither a F-1 and neither a permanent status. As soon as you file for AOS, you do not have to satisfy the requirements of your F-1 but know that if your permanent residency was denied, you accumulated overstay.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.
