what is green card? is it given right after AOS approval?

Meeting Online: Yahoo chartroom Aug 2001.

Direct meeting & marriage: Dec 2003 USA, NY

I-130 petition in DCFR Tokyo: March 14th 2004. Case reffered to DHS USCIS

Four visits to japan in 2004: Oct 2004, wife got pragnant.

Wife/Fiance left USA and moved into Japan: Feb 5th 2005.

Baby Born: June 24th 2005(Japan)

I-130 denied: July 17 2005(Divorce was declared not valid)

Refiling Divorce: oJuly 17th 2005 NY State.

Divorce granted: Nov 17th 2005

K-1 application: Mar 1st 2006

Approval: May 23rd 2006

US consulate RFE: June 15th 2006

FRE sent (Original passports, birth certificate, all origional docs): July 10th 2006

Medical: Oct 11th 2006.

Interview: Nov 10th 2006(expected)

Green card is the proof of legal permanent resident (LPR) status. And yes you normally get it within a few days or weeks after the AOS (Adjustment of status.) The Green card allows you to do pretty much everything a US citizen can do except vote or hold certain jobs. And its no longer green in color its more white than green! Good Luck

When you are applying for Adjustment of Status you are applying for your 'green card' which is, as Motu wrote, white:-). It is the size of a credit card, made of hard plastic and is your legal proof that you have the permission of US immigration to live and work in the United States as a permanent resident. If you enter the US on a K-1 visa, you should try to file for your AOS before that same 90 day time period in which you must get married ends. The processing time for the AOS varies between about 6 months to 2 years depending on where you live in the US. You get your green card in the mail shortly after your AOS application is approved.
