I agree, the system is not set up right because anybody can purchase a home, legal or not.

Diana

That is another issue. Illegal immigrants should have absolutely no right or opportunity of purchasing a property in a country they are not permitted to live in the first place.

How many other OECD nations can I go to and simply buy a house there, while being their illegally?

Why do you think these other nations don't allow anyone to simply buy property and live there freely?

These sort of problems are self inflicted for both the illegal alien and the United States.

Well, it's your word against mortgage banks, contractors, realtors and any other person making a living from these sales. I'm sure they're not rushing to change how the system is set up. That's a lot less money in their pockets, A LOT trust me. And with the way the economy is right now, I don't think they'll change it any time soon.

I am a realtor and it is stuff like this that drives me crazy. The only way you can buy a house and not show documentation of who you are is if you pay cash. I have sold lots of houses and no matter who you are or where you are from, if you have a mortgage then you have to show a drivers license., a greencard, something that proves you are who you say you are. In addition to that, there are the Patriot Act documents that have to be filled out and signed and copies of your drivers license or your greencard are sent in with that as well. There are so many problems with this story, everyone is to blame. But, like the rest of you - I am stuck living apart from my SO, trying to follow the rules and it infuriates me that there are people living here illegally. I feel sorry for him and his family but I get the feeling that as long as he wasn't caught, he was okay with what he was doing. It was only after he got caught that he got worried about his status here. Sorry if I sound bitter....it's all the holiday stuff coming up....ugh! :star:

This does annoy me how he could get his daughter's name to go through. We had such a hard time with my LEGAL immigrant 26 yo husbands stuff to go through when we bought our house. BUT, this lady is nuts. Just because the family that owns a house is illegal doesn't mean you, a citizen have the right to it. People like her should just be prevented from engaging in any social activity of any kind as they clearly don't have the skills beyond a 5 year old.

All she's trying to do it buy the house? All he's trying to do is sell. It has nothing to do with his status, just her being a bitter vengeful witch looking to force everyone to do what she wants like a spoiled child.

Sorry but wasn't she made to pay extra 3 months of rent BECAUSE OF problems with his status? That's a valid reason to get very angry, considering he shouldn't have owned that house in the first place.
