A friend of mine has an NJ birth certificate from 1976. It's the same piece of paper his parents have had his entire life. It looks very different from the one I have. Mine is from 1975 but my parents lost their copy. I had to order a copy in 2004. Mine looks much more 'modern' in format and font and color. His has the "look and feel" of document technology from the 70s. Same document, different versions.

Here is Obama's. Look at the bottom left hand corner. It says "Rev 11/01". I am fairly certain the format you are looking at is the format used in cert's issued from November 2001 to the next revision.

And here is another version I found online. This appears to be incomplete (cut off at the bottom) but is of a birth in 1963 in Hawaii. Judging by the look and feel of the document, I suspect it was printed on a form version much older than 2001.

I think the confusion surrounds the benefits of seeing a HI birth certificate, with the pertinent information "redacted".

Are we talking dimensions of the doc or overall appearance to ascertain authenticity?

all of it. mine is a square piece of paper. obama's is longer than it is wide.

mine is black with white letters, obama's is white paper with black letters.

format is entirely different too. i'll make a concerted effort to find it, photograph it, spend a considerable amount of time blacking out everything, and then i'll post it here in this thread (provided it's still open) along with asking aj to dig up that copy of obama's he had earlier.

then we'll let the naysayers try to pick that apart.

Is what was originally posted an original copy of Obama's actual birth certificate, or a certified copy that the Hawaiian division of Vital Statistics issues when someone requests a copy? The two can be vastly different.

Unless I'm mistaken, the backwards date (in that large empty space near the bottom right) on Obama's "copy" shown to the public says 2007.

Hell, for one reason or another, the most recent copy of my own birth certificate is from 1999.
