Disability and K-1 Visa

My fiance is filing for a K-1 Visa for me to come to the US so we can be married. My question is this:

I have a severe visual disability and have not worked for over ten years. I live on a disability pension from the government. Does anyone know if that would cause me to be denied my visa?

No not as long as she can support you, but I am pretty sure you will lose your disability.

AFAIK it is not an option for deniability based soley on being disabled / differently abled as this would constitute prejudice.

There is more than one VJ member whose foreign fiance/fiancee has disabilities and this has not proved an obstacle.

You might want to look into seeing if Canada and the US have a social security agreement. Thats what its called here in Oz anyway.

You'll have to kiss your pension goodbye because your partner's income will cancel it out (at least mine did - I was on a pension from the Australian government and they were actually willing to keep on paying me after I moved, but when I got married I had to fill out a new income declaration and say bye bye income...)

But they can't refuse you just because you are disabled in some way, if your partner has enough money to support you and to keep you from becoming a public charge.

The U.S. and Canada do have a Social Security agreement.

Is you disablity payment based on your work and earnings like Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits or is more of a welfare payment like Supplemental Security Income?

My disability is similar to a welfare type program (administered through same department), but it is not actually a form of welfare if that makes any sense.

I'm pretty sure that it will go bye bye when I go the the US. We are both prepared for that. I am hoping that in a larger center like the Philly area where we will be living, that I can find work of some kind...at least part time even. If not though, my fiance is prepared and willing to be the main breadwinner and I will be the "househusband" so to speak.

I just don't want my disability to be a concern as far as eligibility is concerned.
