Why is killing one way more humane than killing another way?

Is giving someone a lethal injection more humane than cutting their head off with a dull knife? Is a gas chamber more humane than a firing squad?

Is not the end result still death? So, for that creature, does it really matter? The "humane-ness" of killing something is only decided by those who are still around after the killing.

As I sit in suburbia right now, I am at the top of the food chain. I can go anywhere and eat just about anything I want to because other people kill it for me and I use my eyes in the front of my head to go find it, we barter (a trait that only humans have evolved to do... animals share, but they don't barter) for their wares, and I eat.

I eat meat. Lots of it. Why, because I can. I don't really eat veggies or fruits, just don't like them that much. A lot of cereal and grain, so I can't be innocent of killing plant life too. These people that make the videos like this don't want to acknowledge the fact that humans are killers. We're the most evolved and most efficient killing machines on the planet. (Hell, we're killing the planet!)

I agree with them that there's no reason to cause undue suffering on the animals that we're killing, but not on the same moral grounds that they do. They say that because "the poor animals are suffering." I say that because humans that take pleasure in killing or torturing things have other issues. They're not cruel to animals because they're hungry and want to eat them, they're cruel to animals because they CAN be. People who are cruel because they CAN be, have no problems (if placed in the right circumstances) cutting a human's head off with a dull knife or placing several million of them in a shower full of Zyklon B.

That's what needs to be addressed on these videos, not the fact that "animals are being mistreated." Those animals are all dead. It's the people that kill them or treat them that way that need to be examined.

i think killing the animal should be a method that provides as instantly a death as possible, rather than some slow death like cutting it's throat and letting it thrash about for an eternity.

i also despise fur coats too.

I know most people here are not muslim and I'm not trying to push my religious beliefs on anyone here but in Islam there is a proper way to slaughter animals we're going to eat. The Islamic method is the humane way I was referring to and you can see this article about a scientific test done to record the level of pain an animal feels when his throat is cut (in Islamic fashion) as opposed to electric shock.

I believe the level of pain and disomfort the animal feels at the time of slaughter is what classifies it as humane or inhumane.

it isn't just the most humane death, but the quality of life. I think factory farming is more cruel to animals and terrible for the community - both for the small farmers and the environment.

The only time a animal "throat is cut" is when the rabbi is making kosher meat. PETA sued a Jewish Rabbi in New York in 1992, the federal court rule in favor on the Jewish Rabbi.....

Kosher animals must be slaughtered according to the rigid regulations of shechita (pronounced sheh-KHEE-taw), Hebrew for slaughtering. There are literally hundreds of laws governing shechitah, all of which combine to produce a painless dispatch for the animal to be slaughtered and the freshest, cleanest meat you'll ever eat. But primarily, shechitah involves the shochet (kosher butcher, pronounced SHOW-khet) drawing a meticulously sharpened, imperfection-free blade swiftly, reciting a blessing ("Blessed are You... Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning slaughtering"), and smoothly running the blade back and forth across the animal's neck, instantly ending its life in a most humane manner. Of course, before the shochet even becomes a shochet, he must be thoroughly versed in the laws governing the preparation and usage of the knife and the handling of the animal both before and after shechitah

i'm familiar with halal.

copied from wikipedia (halal): Islamically, the prescribed method is to cut through the large arteries in the neck along with the esophagus and trachea with one swipe of a nonserrated blade and drain all blood and impurities from the animal, because as noted above, the consumption of blood itself is forbidden. During the draining of the blood, the animal is not handled until it has fully died.

which essentially means the animal bleeds to death....such does not meet my earlier statement of an instant death.

The only time a animal "throat is cut" is when the rabbi is making kosher meat.

not true unless you were referring only to the jewish religion.

like a metal bolt to the head moments before slaughter??

besides metal bolts, slaughter houses can also 'stun' (electrocution) an animal before its death! unfortunately, Sec § 1902 (Humane methods) of the Humane Slaughter Act isn't always the easiest to enforce by the USDA.

simple question: if you were going to be killed, which would you prefer? having your throat cut and bled out, or a gunshot to the head (taken from your link).

for me, it's a no brainer (pun intended)

All slaughter houses use what is called a "ping" hammer. The ping hammer send a electric impulse to the animals brain so they dead very quicky and painless. If anyone wanted to visit a slaughter house to see how animals are treat, just make sure you bring a braff bag, just drop me a pm and if we have a plant in your area I will make the arrangement. Oh by the way doing it before July 1, I will be out of the country from July 1 to Sept getting married and spending time with my new wife
