Yet a flood of discounted merchandise from liquidating Circuit City stores could hurt Best Buy during this holiday shopping season, said Jefferies & Co analyst Dan Binder.

"Longer term, you've got Best Buy, who's dominant in the sector, taking share. But in the short run it could feel the pain of the liquidation activity," Binder said.

Umm.. I was actually in a Circuit City this weekend that was having a 'Close Out Sale', and the ####### n there was only marked down 15% and was still more expensive than what Costco/Fry's had for sale @ normal price at the moment..:bonk:

Yeah but Costco's electronic goods aren't humane/organic.

Same here, was looking at a 50" HDTV, on sale the price at Circuit City was 250 bucks more than the same exact set at my Wal-Mart store and Wal-Mart will take it back within 90 days if I don't like it, will Circuit City be around? Anyway, the price is still way too high, so not buying it, but these things have come down drastically in price over the last couple of years. Unrepairable, and the whole thing is made on a printing press, still priced five times too much. If CC sold it for around a couple of hundred, would consider it.

I'd much rather pay the extra $250 than shop at Shitmart.

The one thing I can proudly proclaim is I've never spent a single penny at that godforsaken store. Unfortunately, though, I have walked into it a few times.

In the long run, we're all better off if this type of short-sighted, incompetent management results in terminal failure.

Yup. Same reason I can't wait to see GM go under with all their worthless employees.

McDonald's and all these rock bands are doing fine without me, if everyone quit buying from Sam, may make a difference, but as long as we are comparing the price of a given product, the ease of taking it back if you don't like it, buying from Wal-Mart is not a question of pride. I have ill feelings with Best Buy, got my wife an MP3 player that didn't work, had 30 days to get it back, and the fight they gave me to get my money back from that POS. She liked it, so ordered one from Amazon, same exact player for 60 bucks less. But still a risk as would have to pay return shipping. Not bad on a MP3 player but a hundred some pound TV set would be murder. It worked perfectly.

I do not like Wal-Marts 39.5 hour work week, step daughter worked there for a couple of weeks, was costing me more in gas than what she was earning, and their prices are not the lowest in town, maybe just on a couple of items.

Regardless of what people think of the chain, that's more Americans out of work. Not good news at all.

Well, don't forget that this happens to be the chain who fired 3,400 experienced sales people a year and a half a go only to replace them with cheaper workers who, of course, didn't produce like the one's they decided to let go. They dug their own fcuking grave. In the long run, we're all better off if this type of short-sighted, incompetent management results in terminal failure.

Yep yep yep.

Make sure the Model number is exact. Same brand, same model series, different production set #. Some of these tend to go to discount stores like Wal-Mart. Not sure about quality though.

Good luck with pricing a 50" HDTV in the couple of hundreds much anywhere and expect good quality.

I'm pretty eerie of Best Buy as well. One tip is -- never buy software from them. They give you so much #### if it doesn't work and you need to return it.

Actually looking for a TV not made in China, until then will just stick with my cat whisker crystal TV set. Actually have a TV tuner in my computer so I can watch I Love Lucy reruns while waiting for AK to respond, but only about two minutes worth, LOL.
