I have a quick question. I have been reading that on the affidavit of support I am going to need at least 3 years of tax returns. which could be a problem for me. For last year my ex husband in 2007 tax returns had given me no money only 3000 for the year cause my divorce was final on Nov 6, 2007 since then for the year I have made 24,000 which includes child support and alimony. so my taxes wont be good for 2007 and I was going through a separtation in 2006 so he would be on those tax returns. For which he still have not filed for that. I didnt have a job then I was a stay at home mother. But as of 2008 I have a job and still get child support and alimony which should be me over the poverty limit. I have a letter from my employer and I can get bank statements. but tax returns will be a problem.. Is that going to be a problem. Thank you.

They are mostly concerned with present and future income to support the prospective immigrant, past years returns are to give a history of income, employer letter and recent pay-stubs cover the present and future income evidence.

It is NOT "At Least 3 years returns" it is just Past year's return and additional returns are optional, that is 2007 is required, 2006 and 2005 are optional.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

File your ITR for 2008 as soon as you can as the interview probably won't be until 2009.

Ok but my 2007 tax return only shows I made 3000 dollars for the year cause my ex husband didnt start paying me until Nov 2007 it was a weird situation we were separated but he still lived in my house until april of 2007 when he moved out he didnt pay me child support for 3 months when the divorce became final that is when he started paying me what he was suppose to. So I had to claim just want he was had given to me because I didnt have a job.

I'm in somewhat the same boat. In 2006 I worked for 4 months and made less than the min. requirement for poverty. Then I left and lived in Thailand until April 2008. Since I wasn't in the country and didn't work, I didn't even file 2007 taxes. Now in 2008 I am back in the states and should make just above the min. poverty level. I figure that I'll send in my 2008 tax returns (I should have time seeing how I just received my NOA1) with bank statements, and a letter from my employer. Hopefully that will be good.

I did file for the itr cause i am head of household in 2007 I have three children. 2008 will be different and show i am make more money but my NOA2 should be coming in soon and my finacee should be here in Jan - Feb so i wont have my 2008 taxes filed yet. Is there a way I can avoid giving them my 2007 taxes and just give them bank statements my divorce agreement which shows how much money he gave me and my employer letter
