Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I came to Australia in July 2006 on a students visa, and went to India just for a month in Dec' 2008 for my wedding. I came back to Australia and ever since then i have been in Australia.I got married on the 05th of Jan '2008, and my wife (a US citizen) filed the I 130 on the 29th of February, the G 325 biographic information filled for me was Australian address. So all the processing and visa interview would be done from Australia. The I 130 was initially at the VSC, which later was shifted to CSC. At this point the status of my process is as follows:

Our file was approved and sent to the Visa service centre in Hempshire following which we have undergone the normal processing of DS 3032, paying I 864 and IV bill. For things to look good it took almost 9 months, and we now had hope that we will be crusing in next one month until this happened.

Now, I am suppose to fill the DS 230 form Part I and II and send it to the NVC. But, i have just realised how troublesome it has become for me to get the Police clearance certificates. I guess it might not actually that difficult as i say, caz i feel i am not truly understanding the whole process of obtaining this very well. I have gone through the website many times and have read forums to understand this process better but i think i just dont get it. Well to be very specific about the problem, here are a few things that are bothering me, and i would sincerely appriciate if anyone of you could drag me out of this confusion.

I being an Indian citizen and not residing in India since past 28 Months, how many PCC do i need and from where?

According to my understanding i went ahead and applied for an Australian PCC today. But i am not sure how many PCC's i need from India. Also, i contacted the local Indian consulate here and they suggested me that it would take atleast 45 days for them to get me a police clearance certificate. Now, my another question is:

Will the certificate i get from the local consulate be self sufficient for all the police related clearance from India or will i have to go ahead and get an additional certificate from the District or passport offices?

Plz help me deal with this issues.

Thanks in advance!!

God bless

I would have your spouse call the NVC and ask what is acceptable. That way you do it right the first time. We had posts with so many issues concerning police cert. and I don't envy them. If you send them something wrong - believe me they will send you an request and put your case on hold until they get what they want.

My spouse needed a police cert from the passport office and from the local police dept.

Oh course he is living there too. That took him approx. 1 month to get.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Well, my situation is a bit unique. Though i am a Indian citizen i am not in India. So, i am not sure if i do have to get both the certificates as you mentioned or just police clearance certificate from the Indian consulate in Australia.

Thanks anyway

Well even though you aren't living in India, still you do hold Passport issued from any of the districts in India right? And you do need PCC from places where you have lived after the age of 16.

I doubt you will have to go all the way to India, you can apply for both PCC's through Indian Embassy/Consulate in Australia. But as someone else have suggested, do call up NVC (you can call or your USC SO too can call) and talk to an operator or a supervisor and get things sorted out.

One thing, each state in India has their own rules with issuing PCC.
