I'm sure he is looking at the whole package and he seals the deal upon your arrival and vice-versa.....lol When I had travelled to see my Sweetee, my family was nervous, my GOD had my back and I was like traveling to the grocery store or something. An awesome experience of being able to know someone via emails and phone calls. But the ultimate experience is meeting the one your heart desires, the one GOD allowed you to choose............ I just can describe the feeling when you actually get there.....

Since your man won't have access to you, Tell your honey to make a sign bearing your name. Then he can dash the airport attendant to meet you before you enter customs, gather your baggage, and personally escort you to him. This is probably the best option, considering that you are going to be a little nervous. Because like another poster mentioned, there is a door that seperates the baggage claim from the waiting area... His chances of spotting you first are far more likely than you noticing him. However, 9 times out of 10 chances are that the door will be closed, so.......

I know what you mean about looking cute (and by any means necessary :P), but I declare its darn near impossible not to look like a grease ball, especially if you already have oily skin

Like Molly said, you will look cute for a hot minute, then you get to the point when you say, "Umph whatever, let me rock the MAC lipgloss,& eyeliner and call it a day. Don't worry, you will get a chance to freshen up and don those pretty eyeshadows etc. in the evening when the weather is really nice! Yeah, you guys will probably be at a local stall eating and hanging out nightly.

My sweetheart is also a Nigerian, currently in Lagos and I have known him for 5 years and made 6 visits to Lagos and seen most of the country. I did spend some trips mostly in the hotel and my last trip was kind of a nightmare due to lack of fuel and no generator use in the hotel during the heat of the day for a few days. I thought I was going to die!!! I always found the people in Nigeria very friendly and helpful and of course my honey was so protective that I did not worry about safety. The airport is ok after your first heart pounding trip and you get over that fear of the unknown. Im tall and blonde so I was very easy to pick out in a crowd in Lagos!!!!!! If you can get out of Lagos and go to a remote village, you will find it very pleasant!! Lagos is a new experience and one you will never forget. Oh, and last time we had a small mouse in the hotel. Now, that I can deal with but rats??? no way. 3 of my trips were in March and I would say that is one of the hottest, worst times to visit. My July visit was better but lots of heavy rain. My Sept visit was by far the best as I had just come from several months of Phx heat and I thought the temp was perfect!! I ate alot of chicken and rice, but tasted all the Nigerian dishes my first visits. One bit of advice, bottled water for EVERYTHING!!! the only visit I got sick was when I used tap water to brush my teeth and I really got sick for a week.

Now after all my ramblings, I'm happy to have found this site and would ask all of you with experience with the Lagos visa journey, which do you think is best and easiest?? The spousal visa route or the fiance visa??

Well my first visit to Lagos started off like Molly's. Segun prepared me for the whole light situation. My heart still stopped when they went off. 5 times they went off before my bags came down. I would not suggest the sign thing however its just not a way I'd go. What we did was I wore a bright yellow shirt and under a black suit(of course it was too hot for the jacket). Let me tell you I was the only one in the whole airport in yellow so he had no trouble spotting me. As it turns out he was LATE arriving to the airport. You will see the traffic is the worse I've ever seen. But the moment I saw him my heart just sang. It is a feeling I have never experienced before. Well I could go on and on about that part.

I do have a few things to say about your shots. Get them all! This is your first time traveling to a third world country and you will be there an extended amount of time. Also It is the rainy season so protect your body and your health.

Next just cause you are in love and finally with your man, DON'T LOOSE YOUR COMMON SENSE AND STREET SMARTS. Don't be too flashy with lots of expensive stuff. Thieves are universal and it pays to be on your toes. I hear snatch and grab crime happens a lot there.

Do not trust the tap water period. Use only bottle water even to brush you teeth. The micro organisms are what affect your body and you DON'T see it. They sell water in little bags (I had never seen that before) I did not trust them either. I trusted only bottled water. Well I have a few more tips but this is enough for now.

Hello,

Congrats on your engagement !!! I guess the advice that i would give you would be to make sure that you go to the America Embassey and Register yourself in. I only know of one case where there in the American part of the embassey there in Nigeria they have a " Have you seen me " poster of a america girl who apparently turned up missing. I didn't see the poster until I went into that room to register.

Also the people that work at the embassey are rude at best, so just ignore them, trying to talk with the Consular General is a big waste of time, they won't even attempt to call him for you, you just have to deal with the people working behind the desk there, and remember your not in America, Nigeria has it's own set of rules that's very different from America, but keep the embassey " help line " number with you just in case you many need to use it. I do agree with the others about the men treating you well and being overly protective of you while your there, however I chose to take a credit card with me for just in case situations, thank God I didn't have to use it.

Finally when in Rome you do like the Romans do. This may be helpful for you. Also if you don't get your hair braided before you leave the America consider getting it done there, it's very inexpensive and the girls are quick. They do a really good job !!!!

I have seen some on this forum getting the K1 pretty quick... 5 to 6 months, yet others seem to linger. Oh ya, and it would most likely be better to go for the Cr1 if you need a co-sponser, since some have been turned down for the K1 visas. We went the Cr1/K3 route, yet the Cr1 was processed much quicker and we eventually abandoned the K3.

Best Wishes

Cr1 is a for those who are married. You can also file for K3 of married. The difference...

Cr1 (form I130)..no AOS necessairy after entering the US , can work.

K3 (form I129f)...must file for AOS / work authorization after entering US.

Both must apply for lifting conditions before the 2nd anniversary of arrival in US.

We filed both and the Cr1 was quicker, but in general I think K3 is saposed to be quicker.
