Medical without an appointment letter?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and the reason I came browsing for help was pure frustration with my lawyer :crying: . He has not been helpfull in giving me timelines. I am Canadian and have been married to my American husband for almost 8 months. We have already filed for our I-130 and I-129. I "think" we are close to getting the K3 interview but I'm a little confused.

My lawyer doesn't really fill me in on what exactly he gets however, he did send me instructions on Jan. 30th, 2006 to get a physical done. He had attached a Medical Examination Package for me with instructions from the Consulate in Montreal. The instructions stated that "On the day of your medical appointment, bring your passport or other photo identification, three photos, and your appointment letter to the doctor's office" Well I completed my physical on Feb. 2, 2006 and have the sealed envelope with the X-rays. The only thing that is bothering me is I didn't have an appointment letter and the secretary did ask for it. I asked my lawyer if he had an appointment letter or interview date for me and he said no.

Has anyone ever received instructions on the medical without an appointment letter?

Could anyone outline what exactly is included in Packet 3 and Packet 4? This would help me out because I could tell from what my lawyer has said how close I am to an interview date. Is the medical examination package in Packet 4?

This is my basic timeline so far:

06-24-05 Married in Ontario

08-12-05 Mailed out the I-130 application

10-14-05 Mailed out the I-129 application

11-30-05 NOA for I-129 received

01-09-06 Packet 3 received

01-18-06 Sent the required forms back to Montreal

02-02-06 Physical complete

Thank you sooooo much for your help to ease my nerves!!!

I don't know what appointment letter you are referring to but maybe it was just for the appointment with the doctor. If the doctor gave you the sealed envelope and it was indeed a doctor off the list certified to do the medical then you shouldn't worry about anything. My husband went only with his letter from the nvc showing his case number.

As for your interview letter it should be coming in a month or so maybe more. Good luck!!!!

Hi CanadaGirl,

I also faced similar situation when I had to go for my medical for K3 in september 2005. The doctor's office asked if I have an interview date yet. And all I said was no. Nothing to worry about in that case.

Packet 3 contains a check list containing the list of documents you need to collect and check against and then send back to the embassy. Also it contains DS230 Part 1 which needs to be completed and sent back. And DS156 which is to be filled but not signed and kept with youself to be presented at the time of the interview.

Packet 4 contains the interview appointment letter.

Kovil, I think CanadaGirl is referring to her K3, not her IR case.

CanadaGirl,

From what I have researched (mostly Manila Embassy cases), the medical exam is set about a week before the embassy interview appointment.

The medical exam requirements are

-appointment letter (that will be mailed to the applicant from the embassy)

-passport

-photos

-valid ID

Because of the "erratic" mail service in Phils, the medical center accepts some applicants who show up for the medical exam bringing with them a copy of NVC's I-129F NOA (with the NVC case number) in lieu of the appointment letter which may not arrive in time. Medical exam may be done earlier than a week before the interview, as long as it does not exceed 30 days. This may apply to female applicants whose monthly period may coincide with the medical exam date.

For the interview itself, the forms needed are the following (these will be in the packet together w/ the appointment letter):

- DS-156 (2 copies) & DS-157 (2 copies) -you can find them in the internet

Included in the packet are:

- instructions on Application fees

- instructions on evidence that may be presented to meet the public charge provisions law

- a letter with a list of documentation you should bring to the interview

- medical exam instructions

- vaccination requirements

Hope this helps. I have scans of these.

Thanks for your help guys. I did have my physical done without an interview date so I hope that is OK when I go there.

As for the packet 3....I did receive that and sent back all the required documents on Jan. 19th. I guess all I have to do now is wait for my packet 4 and interview! From the looks of most timelines I have reviewed, my packet 4 should be here around Feb. 20th and my interview should be around March 20th.

Thanks again all :)

Not sure if I understand ur problem or not. But you can have your medical completed prior to getting the packet. As long as it is an approved DR. that is from the list and the DR. is ok with you not having the actual letter, some care, some do not. The big thing is that its from the approved list and not just any doctor. And of course the physical is only valid for a certain amount of time, i think its 1 yr, but not sure on that. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
