The US Department of State sent my fiance a letter on the 14th Aughst saying that they were sending my application for my K1 to the Consulate in Sydney and I would hear from them shortly. I still haven't heard anything. Is anyone else in the same situation? I was expecting to hear from them a little sooner.

I have also regularly checked the USCIS website for updates as well as signing up for email updates on the satus of my visa, but it still says it's at the California service center. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am a little frantic as to where it might be and a little afraid it's got lost in the post!

If your fiance got a letter from the National Visa Center, the did receive your petition, and the USCIS doesn't have anything to do with your case now (despite the fact that they often don't update the case status online).

K-1 petitions expire four months after approval, so your fiance should be contacting the consulate immediately. Consulates can extend that date at their discretion, and usually do so for good cause. Another packet three can be sent out to you if the first one was lost. The case number will be on that letter. If that does not work he can try contacting the NVC. Another contact is the Dept. of State's visa info. line in Wash DC. I found them quite helpful in the past.

I hope this all gets resolved very soon.

Because the Department of State (consulates & NVC) are not a part of the USCIS
