Birth Certificate

Does anyone know if a birth certificate is needed once I moved to US (say for AOS,or EAD,or any other immigration application?)..I am just worried that I might not be able to obtain a copy easily if I need one again later...I just got lucky that I got a copy ( for my interview..dont know when yet) first before this some kind of confusion popped out of my records...see, i was born from another country, I sent a friend back home to request a copy of BC for me and it went all fine. Then I decided I might be needing another copy so I ask her again to request another one, just in case. And this time they issued a different BC, but there was my name on it,and my parents name, only my last name is spelled differently and the place where I was born was different but everything else are the same. They said they updated their system,..

I think my mother registered me when I was born ..and then my father did again (for late registration...when I was older)but then my parents being separated obviously didn't communicate well with each other...And my mother wasnt really sure how my father's last name was spelled.fairly odd parents...

I've been using a late registered Birth Certificater since I can remember..Now they claimed that My late registered BC doesnt exist and that the other BC which just popped out from their record is the one I should be using...but I can't because it would mess up my name. They suggested that I use some lawyer on this...

That is why I'm asking everybody who are in the US already and have been through all the immigration stuff or anybody who knows if I still be needing my BC in the future, coz i think it is going to take a while for me to straighten this out..what a pain in the...you know what...

Thanks!!!

There's a good chance you will need it in the future. I recommend you get things straightened out and get at least one more certified copy while you're still in your native country.

It will be a LOT more of a "pain" to do when you get to the US.

For now, don't get rid of your certified copy, for all the documents make a photocopy of your BC and hold on to your original certified copy, you will need it for AOS, EAD etc, but the photocopy is enough, you just need to show original during the interview (if you have one).
