Yes, we need a law, a law to prevent anyone that doesn't fit my acceptable door knocking profile coming on my property. I don't think there's room for moderates to exist in a system with this level of partisan viciousness. They DO exist of course - but it seems that its necessary that they be lumped in with the fringe elements, because thats the only way partisans can interpret their views.

Oh certainly - I don't expect the VJ political spectrum mirrors the country as a whole. Of course its frequently the case that the people with extreme opinions are often the loudest and most vociferous in expressing them. I suspect that's the case here. Though you need only look at parts of Europe - where national elections in several countries (Netherlands and Switzerland spring immediately to mind) have shown an upswing in the popularity of extreme fringe parties.
