So, my flight was on August 29th,2008 at 6:45a.m. I got to the airport at around 4:00a.m. because I wanted to make sure I had enough time for clearance through customs. I was waiting in the customs waiting area for about half an hour and when the customs officer called me up I had to take my fingerprints and then I went to the washroom to wash my hands of think that was on my hands. When I came back he explained to me that the stamp on my visa shows that I am eligible to work, go to school etc. He also mentioned that I should receive my SSN in about 6 to 8 weeks or maybe earlier. It really depends. Other than that my POE into the US was very smooth. Praise the Lord, thank you God.

U may or may not receive ur SSN, even if u checked of the box! many do not! Al lon ehas to do is take ur passport and other ID (some take marriage cert if ur name isnt the same as in passport) with u to the SSN office and re-apply!! One can also download the form from SSN.gov.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Normally ur in the system by 10-14 BUSINESS days after POE

I hadn't received my SSN by Aug 15th (POE July 25) so went down to the SSN office, I wasn't in their system yet but I wasn't able to submit my application that day because I didn't have my marriage certificate with me. I didn't have a chance to go back again until yesterday and was still not in the system so I submitted my application. The clerk said I will receive my card within 2 weeks. Make sure you bring your passport, permanent resident card if you have it already, birth certificate and marriage certificate.
