Can you be middle-class and earn $250,000?

Just for the record, $250k in Old Town Alexandria, VA where I live is by no means rich when you consider the houses are $1m. With high mortgage payments, pricey restaurants, extortionate property tax and HOA fees, and expensive grocery stores, monthly cost of living is huge.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I am waiting for some to point out that if you dont want to pay the higher taxes, housing, etc. then to move where you can live more comfortably.

I also read that while the average middle-class american is trying to "keep up with the Joneses", rich peeps are trying to "keep up with the Trumps". So yeah, the more you earn the stupider you get I guess.

AMEN!!

I would think that at some point, people would actually ask themselves what is important in their lives.

Apparently, what is important to a lot of people is.....

Money

And then they wonder why the kids are drug addicts, pregnant, moochers....

On my salary/stipend I'd be happy with a lump sum payment of 50K.

But I won't complain if I have to pay higher taxes on a 250K salary... 'cause it will be a $hitload more than what I currently make.

Amen to that, hermano.

....or maybe people want to live in the areas where their friends and family are, where jobs are as secure as they can be, where there are very good schools, where some of the best healthcare professionals in the country are based, where home prices have stayed fairly stable despite the current climate, and where salaries can help with the little luxuries that we all hope to enjoy like eating out, vacations, and a healthy savings account in case things don't go too well. These things are certainly important for me, and whether you choose to accept it or not, money is a crucial factor. And last time I looked, no kids in my family had drug problems, were pregnant or mooched.
