K1: It is not an electronic Passport

Natasha is my fiancee from Argentina living in Spain. Her passport was stolen a year ago while she was in Ibiza. She went to Barcelona and the Argentinean Embassy gave her a replacement. This replacement version is not machine readable nor does it have a chip. We'll be going in for an interview soon. Will this be a problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't know if this helps any, but none of the passports in Colombia are machine readable and we have never had a problem. We have not yet gone through the K1 interview process, but when we went to Peru for vacation they scanned my passport and input his info by hand. I'm guessing they will do the same at the embassy. Not all countries make ones with chips, so they have to have a process for the ones that aren't.

It doesn't really matter, as long as her passport is valid, it's all good.

Agreed. Canada is just starting this process, so mine until 2010 is still the unreadable one. As long as it's valid...

I think when you get replacement ones, there expiry date is much shorter. It's like an interim one until they can process a new one. You might want to look at the expiry date on it.
