Hello, so ok, does anyone know what's going on with the service center in Nebraska? I thought that was where I was sending my 129F paperwork, but then I find out they don't do them now? I was told a month ago to send it there. And my fiance already placed the Nebraska address on the letter of intent, and I just received his documents. Does he have to redo the letter and mail me another copy??? Or what? Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure why someone would tell you to mail it to Nebraska but all K1 Visa applications for your state have been handled by the California Service Center since at least last summer. I remember hearing one of the service centers stopped processing applications about that time? But I'm not sure if it was Nebraska. Maybe someone else knows.

I'd imagine though that yes, he would have to redo the letter and mail you another one :( I definitely wouldn't risk sending in the one you have and risk getting an RFE over something so small.

Thank you for your thoughts. yeah I figured we will have to. It's such a pain in the butt. I can't believe the person who told me. I mean that's a major mess up. OK, well I should've just checked myself earlier. Now I know better! Thanks again.

Yea, that's unfortunate that someone told you that. That's why when my fiance and I were still going through the process of getting the visa, I told her "don't believe everything that people tell you because they're probably wrong".

However, telling you to send it to Nebraska is a HUGE mistake as it definitely did not close a month ago, I believe it closed sometime after 9-11 although not sure on that one.

Yes definitely have him redo the letter and send it back to you.

Good luck

For years the USCIS had four service centers that were available to process you K1 fiancee visa application. California, Texas, Nebraska, or Vermont. As can and should be expected each of the four centers had their own processing times which tended to vary greatly.

For reasons only known to the people running the USCIS the California service center began to take over the Petitions filed at the Texas service center, in what was explained as an effort to expedite the processing of K1 fiancee visa applications. Not one to question the wisdom of the folks at the USCIS I took them at face value and watched as California, and their processing times got longer and longer. This move left 3 service centers to process all fiancee visa applications, California, Texas, and Nebraska.

In the summer of 2006 the USCIS decided that California did not have enough to do, and decided that California would begin processing the K1 fiancee visa applications for Nebraska as well as those for Texas and their original case load as well. Now in a effort to expedite fiancee visa application processing the California service center was doing the work for 3/4 of the country. Through it all Vermont was left to process their own applications and not surprisingly was able to process applications much quicker than a K1 fiancee visa Petition that ended up in California.

There became and still to this day exists a benefit to being able to file your K1 fiancee visa application with the Vermont service center. Naturally US Citizen fiance(e)’s wanted to have their applications processed by the quickest fiancee visa processing center. However, it is not, nor ever has been an election that a fiancee visa petitioner can make. The use of a particular service center has been determined by the geographic location of the Petitioner’s residence. Even though the USCIS finally in the summer of 2007 expanded the jurisdiction, and responsibility of the Vermont service center, the fact remains that California is still responsible for processing the majority of fiancee visa applications filed each year in the United States.

don't worry... that is such an insignificant part of the letter.... the most important part is that you have a letter expressing intent... mine nor my wife's were specifically addressed to anyone or any department

YMMV

where can you find to which service center you belong?i always thought we should file in vermont because my fiance is from texas but this article states otherwise...

current instructions to the form as well as the USCIS website, just to name a couple. Texas became VSC last year in the re-alignment
