visits being denied?

Hi everyone,

my fiancee is back in the States, I'm waiting in Belgium with 3-4 months ahead of us if our case turns out to be average. Of course I want to visit. I've read a lot of reports about succesful visits on the forum (thanks for posting everyone! Cheered me up a lot!), but I wonder : does it also go wrong sometimes? Are people (who are not stupid - ie, have booked a return ticket, don't overstay, bring copies of their file to show to the border officials, etc.) whose entry was denied?

Anyone have an idea of the "success ratio"?

I currently don't have very strong ties to Belgium anymore, since I've just returned from a round-the-world trip after living in the US for 3 years as F1 student ; and am planning to leave forever as soon as I get my K1. So, no property, meaningful jobs or leases etc. here.

Thanks for your input!

Good luck to everyone,

Kevin.

There's a thread here about being denied entry to the US and several others that have been made recently about visiting while the K1 is pending. :)

Basically, as long as you aren't spending more time in America than you are at home (or any other country) then, you won't have a problem. I too lived for a couple of years in America on an F1, and have come and gone many times since without an ounce of bother. This is due to the fact that I have limited my visits to 1 or 2 weeks at a time, and have made absolutely sure that each visit has been seperated by at least 3 months (or more often, 6). Following those guidelines, I've never been asked to produce anything more than a return ticket.

Hi everyone,

It seems strange in hindsight that I was so scared ... The officer who checked my passport etc. didn't give me any trouble at all, he was really warm and kind and basically said, "welcome back!". I got the usual 90 days, with a bit of luck I can stay here till I have my interview in Belgium!

I was surprised the officer in PDX airport didn't even know I (ie my American fiancee) has applied for a K1 - I thought that sort of information just popped up on their screen as soon as they scan my passport?
