Ads Ask Environmentalists to Consider Immigration Driven Population Growth's Effects on Natural Treasures

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Aug 11, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- -- The Primary Factor Driving Future U.S. Population Growth is Immigration --

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) has launched a radio campaign in California linking population growth to environmental degradation. The ads make the point that immigration is the number one factor driving California and U.S. population growth. The radio spots are running in areas with high concentrations of environmentally sensitive Californians.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, mass immigration is the number one factor driving population growth in California and America today. The Pew Hispanic Research Center projects that 82% of all population growth in the U.S. between 2005 and 2050 will be a result of immigration and births to immigrants. "In the last decade these factors have accounted for virtually 100% of California's population growth," according to Diana Hull, President of CAPS.

Hull commented, "If we want to start healing our environment, we've got to slow population growth. More people mean more cars, more sprawl, higher energy demands, more air pollution, more demand for water and more paved-over farmland." Hull continued, "With America's population growing at its current rate, every time we make an environmental gain, our population increases and the gains are erased. Reducing immigration is the key to slowing future population growth and recapturing the momentum in the battle to save California's natural treasures. It's time for California to lead the rest of the country on this issue."

The radio ad identifies the real "inconvenient truth" as the fact that population growth and environmental degradation are related, "people drive cars, create sprawl, destroy forests and pollute." The ad goes on to illustrate the correlation between California's population growth and energy consumption over the last 30 years and concludes by acknowledging that rolling back mass immigration is tough for "compassionate Californians" to swallow. "But there are times," Hull stated, "when hard choices must be made for the greater good."

It's environmentally sound to look at ways to decrease population. It's not good politics to point the finger of blame on one group and say 'but for you, our problems would be solved'.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I suppose you could know what those would be like. If you do, I apologize.

Or perhaps looking at more significant contributors to environmentally-damaging causes, like overconsumption by the mass market we thrive off of.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

My point, which you realise of course, even if Peejay didn't (because he has his fingers blocking his ears and is singing "get the illegals out of here or else!" to himself) is that there are multiple causes to environmental damage from over population (which I think is a significant impactor) to wasteful practices, to the emphasis on consumption as the denominator of the western economy etc, etc. All these factors need to be addressed and simply saying, "we could solve our problems in a flash if we just got rid of illegals" like that's some panacea is more of the simplistic rally rousing we have become used to from the OP.

C'mon peejay, all you have to do is state that illegals are the cause of Global Warming and you'll convince the rest of us.

I have a hard enough time convincing you folks that illegal aliens are illegal. Once we get past that point I might expand my agenda. ;)

How about you stick to nice little pieces that say that then, rather than introducing all these stupid red herrings? It's all very well to have a beef about illegal aliens but to make them somehow responsible for every ill is actually incredibly divisive. Of course, that's the point really isn't it? At least, that's what I am getting from your postings to the extent that I can't even take the illegal part that seriously any more. Is that your intention?
