I thought the topic was about commie wanna bees. Since when did communism become hip?

The bigger question should be why? Didn't most of the kiddies here on VJ grow up in middle class bliss? So why the fixation with communism?

Is it some sort of white middle class guilt trip?

I don't know anyone IRL who thinks communism is cool.

It is indeed daunting how assumptions plague even the most fixated on polarizing the world into things not really relevant. Then again it isn't surprising either.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

There's a lot of inbredding among the older posters who retreat into jokes and double-talk if you question them. You'll just get ####### about having to research all their former posts to know where they are coming from because they don't want to hear anything that contradicts their thinking.

You have to remember most of these folks were in high school or younger when the Berlin Wall fell down or they were educated in commie chic lingo about some unfortunate "excesses" of communism.

I still find it fascinating people making jokes about something they were never a part of, and dont really know about.

It's really not so much of a surprise when you begin to realize how many rebels without a clue there are in the hip and trendy classes here in the USA. Lots of image, but not much substance. Just another fashion accessory to go with the tattoos, piercings, and attitude.

Are we back on the subject of Starbucks patrons?

Oye, peejay...I thought you were on here long enough to have been in on the running joke. The real joke is the absurdity in how people make associations and misuse labels like 'commie liberal.' So if there's anyone you should be asking as to whether they understand the weight of such a label, you should ask those who throw it out there as being synonomous with liberalism or liberal ideology. I've been called a 'commie' enough times to claim it as my own now...and by making light of it, the joke is really on those who even use that term in their political vocabulary. ;)

Sorry I was trying to be fancy. And I failed. :crying:

Its messed up how some people conclude what isn't real based on things that have nothing to do with the topic. But its no big surprise.

Good grief, man...you've got issues.

peejay, see the above post....an example of what I'm talking about....a lot of presumption about someone's history or line of thinking.

Or maybe we just don't want to tell the same damn story every time some freakin' noob decides he doesn't know how to use the search feature.

If somebody wears it as a badge of honor I would guess they probably think it is hip.

Is it any less finkish than someone making "ha-ha" about tagging themselves with the Klan or Nazis? I'm not offended, but... Really there isn't much I haven't seen or heard in my lifetime. I just think it is a huge double standard. Like it is somehow hip to tag yourself a commie considering what it has done and what it represents to many people that have been f*cked over by it.

Especially when it's done by the people that bill themselves as the "empathy and compassion" crowd here on VJ.

It's inbreeding Shakespeare.

Once again, I was there. Never saw a minutes action, but me and my friends had our a$$es on what would have been the front line. People want to joke about communism? Who cares. We won. Hooray for the good guys!

I suppose the "empathy and compassion" crowd are labels you'd like to define with names on a list yes?

Nevertheless what specifically about this "crowd" is so communist in your opinion? The fact that this "crowd" favors people are treated fairly and with human rights? Truly, say it ain't so! There are norms and attitudes to uphold.

You should be more in contempt by those on the Right who use the label, 'commie' towards liberals than by any liberal who makes light of it. In other words, lighten up...we're not the ones who came up with the label.
