Hello Everybody :D ,

Have been visiting websites to collect information on the list of documents that i need to produce once my K1 Visa interview is scheduled, the vfs (Visa Facilitation Services) website for my town listed the below documents for any immigrant visa that is applied on their website www.vfs-usa.co.in, though this is basically for work visa, i have gone ahead and put my comments as Required/Not Required against each document requirement, please confirm if i am correct...also let me know if there are any documents that are missed out in the below list....

1 Passport: photocopy of the biopages of the current passport and a copy of the observation (Required)

2 page or previous U.S visa pages (Required)

3 Photograph* (Required)

4 Biographic Data Forms: DS230 Part I and II (Required)

5 Birth Certificate: original and photocopy* (Required)

6 Marriage Certificate: original and photocopy (Never been married Before)

7 Divorce Decree for all previous marriages: original and photocopy (Never been divorced ;) )

8 Death Certificate: original and photocopy (Not Required)

9 Proof of Relationship (Required)

10 Police Reports: original (Required)

11 Foreign Police Certificates: original (Not sure what this is)

12 Deportation Records (Not Required by me as i have not been deported before)

13 Prison Records (Never been in prison before)

14 Military Records (Never been in Military)

15 Affidavit of Support (I-864 with attachments): original (Will this apply to me)

16 Affidavit of Support (I-864A with attachments, if applicable): original (Will this apply to me)

17 Copy of Affidavit of Support (I-864 / I-864A) (F category only, for each family member) (Will this apply to me)

18 DS-156 (Required)

19 DS-156K (Required)

20 Affidavit of Support (I-134 with attachments): original (Required)

21 Job Offer letter from Employer in the United States: original (Not Required by me)

22 Medical Report* (Required)

Few other questions that i had was

1 I have met her and her parents in USA in the month of June'08, not been officially engaged, will this be a problem as the consulate requires me to produce engagment photos, i have many other pictures taken with her parents and family together, will this proof of relationship suffice.

2 My address on my passport is my old address, when enquired the passport office says they will issue me a new passport with the old one, i need to carry both with me (is a address change on my passport really required) because it takes close to 20+ days for me to get the new passport.

3 Is there a format that i need to use to get the PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from my local police station, the cops in my town are bribe hungry maniacs and i am sure they will end up giving me a invalid PCC.

My appologies that my post is this long, get very less time from work and i have to sneak out to make time on Internet.

Will keep this thread and post futures questions...

Eagerly waiting on all your replies and again all the best to everyone on this website.....

Cheers

Well, first off, congratulations on finding love...and VJ! While your list of required items is great...for the interview stage, you're going to have to read the Guides above, THEN come back and ask questions.

Things that jump out at me are firstly...your girlfriend/fiance is in the US? She has to initiate the petition for you to come to the US. Again, it's in the Guides, along with forms you both have to fill out.

Your interview will be MONTHS away! You're only beginning the process, so you're in for the long haul. You might be looking at not getting an interview for 8-12 months.

Get your passport renewed now since you have the time...although do you need a new passport for an address change?

You don't need to worry about the police report yet...maybe after you've received notification that your petition has been approved in the US.

For the first part of the process, you'll need proof that you've met. Remember for both of you to keep boarding passes, and anything else that can prove that you have met. Keep retaining information as well, as during the interview stage they'll be looking at evidence that this is a bonafide relationship by asking for other visits or trips you both have made, credit card statements, pictures etc.

What really sprang out at me and screamed "stop!", was your comment about engagement photos. Click on your country and you'll see others that are going through this, or a similar visa from your country. Engagement photos are NOT a good thing to include. Often times they are looked at as wedding photos. If you're going the K-1 route, you don't want any Consulate or Embassy thinking you're married.

I'm going to end for now, as you REALLY need to read the Guides to decide what type of Visa you both want, and then begin reading the instructions. THEN post questions that you have.

All the best in a successful journey!

I agree about the engagement photos. I am not sure how your embassy is, and it's your job to look up and ask people going through your embassy about this one, but everything I have heard about providing engagement photos to a CO is negative. A lot of times they mistake them for wedding photos, and even if you tell them they're engagement photos, it's up to their discretion if they want to believe you or not.

I simply WOULD NOT provide them, but I'd find out about your embassy first.

It definitely IS NOT a requirement though. Don't know where you heard that.

Thanks for all your replies guys, appreciate it a lot...

I am sorry if i framed my sentences incorrectly..... : ) or it led to confusion

@ Carla

Yes....after much discussions between us we decided to take the K1 route and i am aware that she needs to file a I-29 petition for me with the bio-graphical form et all, she has already begun gathering the required documents and is in the process of filing the petition. This post was posted purely to understand what documents i need to submitt from India as i am the beneficiary. I was unaware that we had country specific forum in this website, will try to look on that part :), pardon my ignorance....

@ littleasianman and Kim & Russ....

About the engagement photos, it is what i read on the consulate website that serves my town, it said to bring photos of engagement under the K1 Visa section, may be it meant to talk about the K3 Visa...not very sure

This is where i read about the engagement photos Chennai Consulate

Please advice & thanks again

No problem at all Ravi. Glad we could help. Sounds like you've done quite a bit of research which should really help you along the way. I'm sure your fiance will appreciate your diligence in assisting in the process at her end! While any and all questions related to the K-1 can be answered here in this section, sometimes specific country threads shed light on specific Embassy things that no one from another country may know as well. Best of luck on your journey!
