We're moving this weekend and we know we have to change our address with the USCIS. The question is that we don't know where our GC is in the process. If it goes out to the old address will it be forwarded like regular mail? Some mail is stamped "Do Not Forward" and I don't know if that's the way a GC is.

Thanks,

KZ

The form is AR-11.

Make sure you call them to change your address on the pending applications. Form AR-11 does not change the address on applications already submitted and no, it will not be forwarded by usps.

You can now do this online at www.uscis.gov.

I just called to change my address yesterday. I changed it on the phone with a rep, then I went online to change it as well. When you go online after you change your address it will ask you if you have any pending applications. Once you select yes it will ask you if you would like to update your pending petition address as well.

It is really fast and simple.

I would go online if I were you and then call the center where your petition is and update it there as well. That is what I did.

Althou, my local post office did forward my uscis mail to my new address. I was worried they would not because I did not change it with uscis yet, just thru the post office. I was lucky I guess becasue I have received my NOA and bio appointment letter to my new address from post office for remomving conditions.

I did it online just now and it did run me through a separate set of steps to change the address on the pending I-751.

Also, it looks like I (as the sponsor) have to fill out and send in an I-865.

Thanks everybody!

Yes, the sponsor does need to update the affidavit of support, as well as the Permanent Resident filling out the AR-11. If it helps, friends of ours moved at exactly the same stage of the process you are in, updated their address and the affidavit of support, and received the 10 year green card at their new address 3 months after they moved - no problems.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

If the person being sponsored can be credited with 40 quarters of work, does it still become necessary for I-865 to be submitted by the sponsor ?

I was just a couple years shy of having the 40 quarters (10 yrs)...

From I-864 :

Are There Exceptions toWho Needs This Form?

The following types of intending immigrants do not need tofile this form:

Any intending immigrant who has earned or can be credited with 40 qualifying quarters (credits) of work in the United States.
