Hello all,

Long time reader, first time writer. :) First, I'd like to say thank you all for all your information and help. Armed with visajourney's knowledge my fiancee and I have successfully navigated thru K-1 process and we are now ready to tackle on the Green Card process.

My fiancee already has her SSN from here previous stay in US few years back (OPT, H1-B visas, so was work-authorized) -- Is there something we need to notify to Social Security Administration during AoS process in such case, other than say maiden name change?

Thanks!

Hi!

I was in the same situation. I had a SS number from being here previously on a J1 visa. I went to the social security office and they took my old SS card- because it was assigned to me under a different status. I had to fill out a new application though. They said the number stays the same, just the info that they have on me has to change. They will need to take a copy of her K-1 visa.

Has anyone on a K-3 visa done the same thing? I'm wondering if my DIL will have to wait until she gets her EAD to apply to replace her card and get one with her married name and new status. She worked here on a J-1 visa previously and actually threw her SS card away because she didn't realize it's importance and thought she would never need it again! We did retrieve the number. I was sure hoping it was right, and apparently it was because her petitions and visa were approved. (I lost some sleep over that one).

Thanks!
