:cry::cry: I'm missing this food so bad... I'm not Bicolana (my sister is, since she's married to one) but I love Bicol express...

I'm from Quezon so I must say "budin", "nilupak", (they're both cassava cakes fixed in different ways) "suman malagkit" (rice cake).

Deym! I wish we have them here... :crying:

--Mae

Hi Mae, when I was young I love eating "nilupak" every time I go home from school, and I have been wanting to eat "nilupak" again for the past few years but I don't have any idea where to buy that here in Manila, I have been also searching online how to make one, maybe you can share, thanks.... It has been my favorite food since I was young, it also brings back my childhood memories....

mae this is all for you...i know miss mo talaga lahat to.....

Thanks, Ann... you're so sweet. :luv: Asukal nga dyan please o kaya Milo sawsawan ng suman ko!

Paano ba magluto ng laing? I saw some dried gabi leaves sa filipino store and I asked them how to cook laing but they don't know how since they are not bicolano. I'm not bicolana but I really love bicol express. Baka pwede naman :)

Meron din ako bigas na malagkit dito...I'm planning to cook some suman tomorrow :)

Evelyn

Naku sis, i tried using the dried leaves pero it's not the same kahit na I followed the recipe that I found in the net. I guess it's not just about the food itself, but also the ambiance. Iba talaga pag sa Pinas, parang everything is yummy pero pagdating dito sa US iba ang lasa. I even tried Ginataang Kalabasa with Shrimp... it was a bit disappointing. Pero sabi nga nila "beggars can't be choosy" daw so I ate it kahit it's not the same.

--Mae

Ako din nagluto ng kalabasa and sayote, iba nga ang lasa pero sige lang pinag tyagaan ko na rin. Pati nga yong taste ng meat nila dito iba rin....miss ko na talaga yong food natin sa Pinas!

Evelyn

hi evelyn...heres how to cook laing

Laing

3c. sheredded gabi leave, dried under the sun

11/3c. coconut milk

1pc. onion

1/2 clove garlic

piece og ginger

1/3c. sliced pork adobo

2 tsbp. alamang

In a saucepan, cook the garlic, ginger, onion, pork, alamang, gabi leaves, and coconut milk together. Add sili if desired. Allow to boil until the coconut milk is almost drying out, and looks oily. Lower the heat, and when the coconut milk is creamy on top of the vegetables, remove from the fire and serve...

Serve 4-6 persons...

Thank you so much sa recipe. Maka pagluto na rin ako nito...minsan kasi nagtyayaga na lang ako ng laing sa lata.

Evelyn

miss ko na laing na luto ng nanay ko...and nilupak

When I was in Canada, I so missed tinolang manok na native and kalamansi, too, the fresh ones! I also missed the indian mangoes and the liturdan bananas. Hmmm...maybe I should stay longer here!

The baduya in Ilocos is not fried banana. It is pure rice flour with brown sugar or molasses, then deep fried like maruya.
