Regarding the forms I-485, I-864 & G-325A, what name should be used for my wife. That is does she still use her maiden name for these forms, or does she use her married name, since we are already married? She does not have her social security number yet. My understanding (but not sure) is that she would maintain her maiden name for these papers, since she does not have her social security card yet.

Always use the current legal name. If it is her intention to use a "married name", simply go forward using that name including changing it in her passport. You can do that last if you want.

They'll issue the green card in the married name even if you didn't file that way but if you also file for EAD and AP, those will be issued in the name you filed under (but no longer valid or needed once AOS is complete). It's purely up to you. Traditionally Chinese women don't change their name at marriage, so sticking with that simplified things for us. Even so, she was asked at interview what name she wanted on the card.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
