On # 2, I wrote my wife's maiden name. You should write any and all legal names you've used here.

On # 20, yes you should write down everything from age 16. In our case I made a mistake and wrote down everything since my wife was born. We didnt get an RFE though. I guess it was better to put more info than when you're short. :-)

On # 23, I just wrote down the colleges my wife attended. I didnt bother to write high school, etc.

Also, from my own experience, here's some of the most common reasons people get RFE at NVC.

  • Check your #20 again. Most people get an RFE because they forgot to write the word "present" on the last dates.
  • Other names used on #27 and N/A on #28
  • They did not include (2) 2x2 photos
  • No NBI clearance for maiden name (if you wrote your maiden names on #20)
  • Do not sign Part 2 or page 4 of DS-230. (You sign this at embassy interview)
  • Copy of your passport (front & back)
  • They send in they DS-230 application when it hasnt even been generated at NVC yet

Good luck Edith. Dont worry though. This is just a bump. You'll get your visa soon!

I just wrote the college only, not the other schools. I just caught that after reading this. I sent NVC a formal e-mail with the other schools (elem, HS) from my wife' e-mail. Did you get an RFE for not putting her elem and HS??

Also, from my own experience, here's some of the most common reasons people get RFE at NVC.

you're saying people get an RFE because they write N/A on #28???

No NBI clearance for maiden name (if you wrote your maiden names on #20)

The name on my wife's NBI clearance is Kristine y Cuasito Alcampado de Lawrence. Her Maiden name is Kristine Cuasito Alcampado and her married name is Kristine Alcampado Lawrence. Will we get an RFE because we don't have an NBI clearance for her maiden name??

You did good. # 2 and #27 are usually the same for most people. Your RFE is probably not for that.

Just the college is good enough. They should accept it. I am really curious as to what your RFE could be.

chrisepic,

You should have submitted an NBI clearance for her maiden name as well.

The following is a quote from US Embassy Manila...

"Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. "

Its too late now so lets hope you dont get an RFE. BUT I suggest that your wife get an NBI clerance with her maiden name anyway just in case you get an RFE (knock on wood).

Your wife should also have an extra copy of her NBI clearances (married and maiden name) to bring to her interview. The embassy suggest that applicants bring these documents.

In my wife's case, she brought these clearances but it was not asked by the consul. Better safe than sorry.

you're saying people get an RFE because they write N/A on #28???

Sorry. I guess that wasnt clear.

Im saying people usually get an RFE because they leave #27 blank and do not put "N/A" on #28.

On # 23, I just wrote down the colleges my wife attended. I didnt bother to write high school, etc.

College is good enough. We did the same thing on our DS-230 and did not get an RFE.

I personally think there's nothing else. If NVC told Boyce that its 2, 20, and 23, then that's probably that's it. Glad to hear that your daughters case is complete though.
