i asked this question once before and got several answers

i work for a local union they match me with contractors each contractor takes out taxes pays into my pension etc

but in any given year i can work for a multitude of different contractors my union does track my pay scale and who ive worked for do i put them as my employer and attach a letter of explanation or do i have to list each individual contractor

that's what I would do

I would list your local union as the employer.

I will call you as an independent business (or Independent Contractor). Your Union matches you with other contractors needing your service but its not your employer. Good Luck

I agree with pushbrk

If your union, or those whose contract you're under, pay your taxes and handle your pension then you are not self employed. You must get some kind of paystub or something to the effect that shows earnings, deductions..etc? You are a contractor who works through a union.

Even though I work for several companies, I am self employed. I file 1099, pay my own taxes and handle my own benefits. No fun.
