Well dang, I feel cheated! I didn't get a free gun when I bought my car today!

And this: "The only real protection against a gun is another gun." is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard.

Of course...which is why when the police are called out to a crime scene, they leave their guns safely locked away at home ;)

More cops? Please, as if we don't have enough of those undereducated dumb-as-bricks armed-to-the-teeth chip-on-their-shoulders maniacs running around.

We don't need more cops. Their mission just needs to change a bit.

-Get rid of those useless drug task forces. Pot is not killing people.

-Get rid of the those stupid prostitution sting teams. If an adult wants to buy sex from another adult, who gives a sh#t? Seriously.

If the police did half as many gun purchase stings as they did drug/prostitution stings, I think it would be logical to assume that street gun crimes would go down.

I'll go along with that line of logic when they leave their bullet-proof vests home too.

Edited to add: that sounded awfully snotty as a reply. My apologies. I just have a hard time justifying why anyone other than the cops need a gun.

Oh, and I've had a stroke, so remembering things during a stressful time usually doesn't work for me, comfortable or not.

Oh. I'm sorry.

'Tis ok.

Eh, just because someone passes a driving test, doesn't mean that they aren't an idiot on the roads.

An intelligence test for gun ownership would be yet another colossal waste of tax money.

You have to take tests to get a diploma, certificate or degree as well.

Does a medical degree stop a doctor from killing a patient?

Does medical training (and the degree that comes with it) make a person conducting surgery less likely to kill their patient?

As a regular occurence? Yes. I think it's far more likely that I'd kill someone by misdiagnosing them and giving them the wrong medicine than, say, a doctor who's actually trained to do that.

Because unless you happen to live right next door to a police station, your chances of the police arriving in time to prevent some dirtbag from harming you are not very good. I prefer to have a fighting chance.

All this could be solved if we could just get over our objections to genetically screening all newborns and instantly destroying all babies with a genetic predisposition to violence.

So you're saying we should kill all male babies? How Herod-like of you.

Fair enough, and that is your right to do so in this country. I just don't feel the need. :)

And this: "The only real protection against a gun is another gun." is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard.

You wouldn't think it's ridiculous if you had a gun in your face, now would'ya?

If I had a gun in a my face, I'd probably be too scared to move, let alone remember where my gun is and the combination to the safe it would be in.

Maybe if you had a gun, were comfortable and proficient in its use, guns would cease to intimidate you so and you'd actually find that you do, in fact, possess the ability to remember where your gun is and the combination to the safe.....

I am not intimidated by a gun. I refuse to be intimidated enough by "the possibility of coming in contact with a bad guy with a gun" that I need to "protect" myself with one.

Oh, and I've had a stroke, so remembering things during a stressful time usually doesn't work for me, comfortable or not.

I don't recall anybody suggesting you buy a gun. Your attitude and abilities are yours, not mine or anybody else's. I know where my gun is and can push the five buttons and turn the dial within a few seconds, in the dark, if needed. In the meantime, I don't worry about my grandchildren having any accidents.

People like you probably shouldn't own guns, not because you're a moron or a criminal but because you're somebody best protected by others, if at all, when/if that kind of protection is ever needed. No shame in that whatsoever.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
