Getting ready to file, a few questions...

Hello all,

We are getting ready to file AOS, and I am debating on the EAD and AP...

We live in Raleigh, and will send all docs to Chicago, I am guessing our local office is Charlotte, or Atlanta (??)

Also, does anyone know where we will go for the biometrics? (Charlotte is a hike, but we will do it of course!!)

I have been reading that many K-1 AOS are getting approved pretty fast, (seems around 4 months??), some even before EAD arrives, and some even without having an interview.

What do you all think? Is this a trend, or still a rarity, and the majority of applicants need to wait a while for their EAD and interview?

We are thinking to do the EAD so maybe Murphy's law will kick in, (and get approved before the card arrives!!), but maybe wait on the AP. But, on the other hand, my husband's father is 83 (thank goodness healthy), so maybe we should file anyway and not worry about the cost... (decisions, decisions.....)

thanks for the input.

Once you have your GC, you will be able to work and travel. So, the decision to apply for AP and EAD depends on how desperately you want to work and travel.

To save money, if you aren't desperate to work or travel, you can just wait for the AOS approval, but check the local office that you will be going through to see how long they are taking to process the AOS right now.

Good luck.

I did not apply for the EAD or AP to save money as they were not needed urgently and you can always gp for emergency AP if there is an urgent need to go home.

As for the transfers to California, I think these are the lucky few and the majority of us have to go for the interview.

Mine is moving pretty fast but it has still taken 5 months so far.

Good Luck

Sarah

I suggest you file everything if you can afford it. We get a lot of people here trying to get info on emergency AP. You just never know how long all of this will take. The last thing you want in a family emergency is to beg the government to cut red tape for you.

You definitely want to file the EAD. In most states you wont be able to drive or work without it. If you get lucky and get the green card first then count your blessings. Remember that one week of pay in even the lowest paying job will cover the cost of the EAD.
