Christians (F)

by Maya Angelou

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ

that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'"

I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.

I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.

I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.

I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain..

I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou,

I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow! (F)

She is, by far, one of my favorite writers and speakers of all time.

"Still I Rise" is one of those poems too that just....speaks.

But I've never read this poem, thanks for sharing it!

That's probably because, like most cheesy-azz poems attributed to her on the net, she didn't write it.

If I were her I'd get irritated that everyone receiving these fake poems so readily accepts the idea that she writes like an 8th grader, but I guess she lets it slide.

Snopes it.

Talk about cheezy! And no, you are not her , but I bet your irritation comes from the fact you probably hate your own life and cant stand to see anyone post something nice with the word God in it. But 0k, I guess I will let that slide.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Thanks. From where I'm standing now, my life is pretty sweet, but thanks for your concern! What's this about me not being who now? The writer of that poem was not Maya Angelou. I think she's overrated in general, but she certainly writes better than the posted "poem."

I don't hate Christians, I just think they have a silly belief. At least I don't think you're evil and inferior, or have the ego to think I have all the answers. But that's cool.
