Will a divorce from a nonresident involve property settlement?

I've been married for less than 4 months and wife is a nonresident alien. I'm contemplating a divorce...will the divorce result in property distribution/settlement just like

normal cases here in the US?

Go for a annulment, its cleaner and quicker. But talk to a divorce lawyer, they can best guide you. What ever you do, dont put anything in her name while still married to her. Not on bank accounts, credit cards, nothing.

Also, check on line for divorce laws in the state you live in. Each state sometimes varies on property and settlement issues. I would start there first.

The wife being a non-resident alien has no bearing on divorce laws. I would expect the same treatment as if she was a US Citizen your State. In general, property settlements in four month marriages tend to be along the lines of "you take what you brought and I'll take what I brought." but having taken her out of her country, career and life, you could be required to provide some compensation to get her back on her feet, here or abroad.
