Do you lose your citizenship

My boyfriend and I were curious if going through all this will cause him to lose his Canadian citizenship or would be have dual citizenship when all is said and done?

And if he loses his citizenship, how do you go about getting it back so you do have dual?

We were married in Washington in August, we submitted our I-485, I130, I765, and I131 in Sept of 06 to the Chicago Lock Box, and got our Green card in January 07!!! Found this was much faster and easier than going through the K1 process.

NO, as a Canadian He wont loose his citizenship!! As Cdn he can have dual citizenship with the USA. Goingf or American citizenship is still a few yrs down the road for him. More paperwork to submit. lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

One doesnt APPLY for "Dual" citizenship. Down the road he may apply for USA citizenship (check out that section on VJ) During the ceremony one renounces his "other" citizenship, in this case canadian. BUT Canada does not recognize that, thus he will have dual citizenship with USA/Canada. He may not wish to become a USA citizen, and her does not have to. There are advantages and some disadvantages. Up to him.

One can give up your Cdn citizenship, but it takes more paperwork and dealing with the government

as long as the countries you have citizenship to allow multiple citizenships, you can have as many as you can apply for really. There was at one time a woman here who had I think 6 passports.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card
