NOA?

Hey all,

I heard some of you mention a NOA1 letter that we would get that extends the conditional resident status for one year....is that the letter that came in the mail that says I-797C? Or will we get something else in the mail? Need to renew drivers license, wondering if we can use that. Also, can we add this letter to the USCIS website with the receipt number? I tried, but it won't take it. Thanks

This is the first NOA and that extends your green card for one year. The NOA number is not going to be accepted in the USCIS site as it is not the case number that you are going to be assigned. The biometric appointment letter will have the correct number which should allow you to register in their website. I am not sure if you are going to be able to renew the driver license with this letter but I am sure there are others who tried doing this and will give you better advice on that.

Just wait until you get the appointment letter.

It varies by State but you are supposed to be able to use the NOA extension letter plus your expired green card to renew a Driver's License. The license can only be renewed for the same length of time as the extension letter - one year. Be sure to point out on the letter the part where it states it is good for work and for travel and extends the green card for one year. if the first person you talk to doesn't agree, ask to speak to a manager.

You will be able to track your status on line after you get the biometrics appointment letter, but the NOA and your green card together is your proof of legal status until you receive your new green card.
