Where do we go from here?

Good evening -

My wife was just given her CR-1 visa from the US Embassy in Guatemala this week (We've been working on this since March 22, 2005). She was told by the Embassy folks that she would get her green-card, etc shortly after arrival, but was also informed by another consulate official that it could take between 1 and 8 months for her greencard/social sec. to come through.

Does anyone have some experience with this that could help us understand our next few steps?
