A reported bomb threat to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign office in Evansville appears to be a hoax.

Police entered the headquarters at 330 Main Street at about 3 p.m. and exited a few minutes later saying there had been no bomb.

Obama volunteers and staffers who had been evacuated from the building then returned to work.

The bomb threat was made this afternoon in a phone call to a television station in Terre Haute, which then reported it to the Indiana State Police. The threat mentioned the offices in Evansville, Terre Haute and Vincennes.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Todd Ringle said city police departments in each of those communities investigated but found no evidence of bombs.

“Most likely it was someone trying to cause problems and get people not to vote,” Ringle said.

It marked the second criminal incident involving the Vincennes Obama office in two days.

Authorities have forwarded an investigation into a vandalism there Tuesday to the Secret Service.

Officials with the Vincennes Police Department initially investigated the incident, but it has since been handed over, said Randy Madison, a dispatcher for the department.

The vandals reportedly broke a large plate-glass window and painted the words "God damn Wright, God bless USA" in white spray paint, Madison said. It was reported just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Madison said police have no suspects and there were no reports of other problems prior to the incident.
