I had been planning on my second trip to the Philippines to propose to my fiancee for about six months. My trip was scheduled for the begining of April. About three weeks before my trip I was laid off from my company. I went on my trip and proposed and I am wanting to file a K1 for her in a few weeks. Do I have to wait until I find another employer to file or can I just list my current position as unemployed on the G325a? I anticipate having a new job within the next few months but as of now I am on unemployment. I apologise if this has been asked already but I did a search and could not find

US Citizen employment is not an issue until the visa interview, NOT when you file the I-129F.

You dont need to provide any evidence of support at the time you file the I-129F

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Is there anyone who could co-sponsor? Just in case your unable to find a job that pays at the right % above the poverty level. You don't need to be employed you just need to make sure that someone is willing to support your fiancee if you can't.

You don't need to declare your income at the very first stages of the process but you will need to show at packet 3 and it might look a little bit suspect if you are only able to supply very little financial information. I don't know the ins and outs of it but you maybe need to find a co-sponsor even if you do manage to find work as it wont appear to be very secure if you've only been there a few months.

Good luck,

Bex xxx

You and Dan is right. Don't worry about anything at this point. By the time the petition is approved and the visa process gets to the Philippines consulate - if you do not have a job showing enough support - then you can line up a co-sponsor like a family member or friend. But don't worry at this time - you have 3 or 4 months to go (its a guess). Good Luck
