Police Certificate and NVC Online System

Hi All,

I asked my wife to get her police certificate for the DS-230. They won't give it out without something official from the NVC. Problem is I used the new on-line system to pay the IV bill and printed the cover sheet online. I haven't received anything from the NVC asking for the DS-230 or a police certificate. What am I supposed to do? Is the NVC going to send me something?

Basically, If I can't get the police certificate without a document from the NVC, printing the cover letter on-line didn't save me any time. In addition, it is not clear I will ever get the required letter from the NVC. Looking at it from their side, I used the on-line system to get everything I need, so why send a packet.

Am I screwed? Should I just wait and see if I get something from the NVC? Should my wife try and get the police certificate with the NOA2?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know how it works in Japan. I made a request letter, then with the copy of I-130 approval notice, applied for PCC at Police Station in India. Probably, you can try that. If that doesn't work out, you need DS-230 package from NVC.

This is PCC request format, if you want it:

==================================================

April 18, 2008

To Whomsoever It May Concern

I, Petitioner Name, the citizen of the United States (holding the U.S Passport# nnnnnnn), would like to sponsor my spouse <Spouse's Name> (beneficiary) as an immigrant to the United States.

As part of this immigration process, I have filed her I-130 (Petition for Immediate Relative) with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and this petition has been approved on April 12, 2008. To proceed for her immigrant visa (Green Card), beneficiary’s many original documents have to be submitted to the National Visa Center (NVC) at New Hampshire, United States. And one of them is Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from the Passport Office and the Police Station, if the beneficiary is aged above 16 years.

Please review the attached I-130 Approval Notice from the USCIS.

NVC has some pre-requisites in the format of PCC and I hope you would be able to issue the same in the required format.

• It must be in English and must be on the official stationery with the seal and signature of the respective authority

• It must cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence since age 16.

• It must state what the appropriate police authorities’ records show concerning the beneficiary, including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which there is a record. If there are no records, specify it clearly.

I kindly request you to issue the original PCC for her as soon as possible to proceed with her visa. Any help on this matter from you would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns on the above matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at 001-xxx-xxxxxx or at the address specified below.

Thanks

Petitioner

We were successful with getting a police certificate with just a photocopy of the NOA2, but it seems like it varies from region to region in Japan.

In Saitama, (we were told it was the same for all prefectures in Japan, but maybe a CR-1 is different) we had to wait until he got the packet from the embassy, not NVC inorder to get the police certificate. She's right, they won't let her order it without the form or letter in the packet.

Thanks for your help all. Turns out all we needed was the NOA2.

The Tokyo PD accepted the NOA2 as proof she needed the police clearance thingy..

Great! I wanted to add a post to your query as I am exactly at the same situation but felt I should wait till I get my P.C. I too have submitted the NOA2 and a print out from NVC's website stating the requirement of Police Certificate. Waiting for the PC now.

All the best to you.
