And by only recently (officially) addressing a scandalous policy relating to the treatment of aboriginals.

I must have missed where we treated them badly in 2008..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I have not studied the cause but I can see who is shooting up the neighborhoods throughout the United States of America. Who is allowed to roam and commit crime as they see fit.

As with everything, there is a reason for this too. People don't just wake up one day and decide that they are going to go around shooting people. I understand that this concept is more than you are able to grasp, but if you choose to continue believing as you do, then there is nothing anyone can do about it. Perhaps, though, you might want to consider trying to figure out why people do things before you start spouting off racist bullshlt rhetoric like this. Just a thought.

You tell me why they are committing these crimes since I don't understand the 'perils of the youth' in the community.

All I care about is who is committing the crimes.

You must have missed how those people's concerns were essentially ignored by a government that didn't want itself subjected to (rightful) compensation claims.

comments please

You obviously support the views of cocaine addict like Abbie Hoffman and listen to a disingenuous film producer like Michael Moore. So it is safe to say we will never see eye to eye.

They have since apologized. Case closed. The aborigines are not shooting up the country now are they. Plus we are discussing the crime wave in America. Not people separated by 10,000 years or so..

If you only care about who is committing the crimes - why are you always fixated on blacks and black communities and not similar situations taking place in hispanic neighborhoods?

I'm not sure I like how your characterisation of black people in America always boils down to a baggy-trousered, hippity-hop stereotype.

In any case - isn't it worth trying to understand the reasons that certain communities fair significantly worse than others? If you aren't prepared to do that - all you're doing is finger-pointing.

Violence begets violence, we are a very violent people, and not only does violence happen in the hood, and it happens all over our country, we legislate violence towards other countries we just don’t vib with. Open your eyes; we love to kill, period. Nothing gets Americans blood going as good old fashion kicking some ones ###. Only when we learn to walk away from archaic ways can only change begin. We have to recognize the problem first, and by the looks of things, we are not even close.

They have since apologised yes - but I believe the victims of the Stolen Generation are still not eligible to receive compensation. As many of those people are still alive - I find that a little bit strange.

I have not characterized ####. What I did ask is how is someone dressed like that going to get a corporate job or be taken seriously in the professional world, which is apparently racist? There is not one professional company on this planet that would hire someone dressed like that.

While reading the story a couple of things surprised me. I guess they have a curfew for kids > 18 yo? They were sending out special police units to deal with the gangs. From some of the documentaries I've seen, gangs and that lifestyle impact the quality of life for anyone living in areas where the most violent gangs operate. I'm not sure what the solution is to keep kids out of gangs but the violence isn't going to end regardless of gun laws. I think there are already laws against kids carrying guns. If you read the actual statues you'd see it restricts the use or possession of virtually any type of weapon (slingshots, pellet guns, bow/arrows, crossbows, knives of certain types, etc.). IMO, parents and goverment have to take care of the fundamental problem(s). More gun laws aren't going to help.

Final comment: It's a little more understandable after reading that story why Rev. Wright wants to live in a elite gated hood where neighbors only take their guns out for skeet shooting.

I agree with that. The glamorizing of violence by Gangsta clips does not help. Even in Manhattan you can see rich white kids trying to be all bad because the stigma of the violent homey is now popular. Also explains why so many teens, and girls, are beating each other up and filming it like some sort of trophy.

Because for one reason or another "people like that" don't aspire to corporate jobs.

Here in NYC, there are however, plenty of working professionals of pretty much any ethnicity you can think of who work professional corporate jobs, and who are well turned out in their professional attire.

Again - I'm not sure what point you're making here, other than the old "cut your hair and get a job" cliche.

These gangsta types are basically the Chavs of the community here. So they are not going to get any sympathy from me. They need to be forcefully told that we the people control the streets and not you guys. If it means sending SWAT teams to patrol the streets then so be it. But i don't want to see Jesse Jackson and co demanding justice once the police end up killing one of them.

Where was Jesse Jackson and co when the 37 people where shot in Chicago. There are more people shot in one city alone, over 2 days, than when comparing the monthly stats of the entire country of Canada, Australia and the UK combined.

Heavy police enforcement is all well and good - but it doesn't really do a lot to diminish/break the power of the drug trade, which is actually what drives this stuff and which is what facilitates that kind of lifestyle.

Its an insular subculture that doesn't recognise outside authority figures, including Jesse Jackson et al. So "where was he" wouldn't really make much of any difference.

Why are we surprised, we are a killing machine  We blow up things daily as a nation, why is it such a surprise when there is a smaller group that does it? I mean they are doing what America does on a daily basis; we encourage violence, love it, and eat it up for supper. Like the video shows, tell me what is a lie about our violence as a nation. We did those things, yep good old USA, you don't do as we like, and we take you out, period. Please, I am never surprised at the violence in this country, the only thing that surprises me that it isn't worse, but things are going south fast, nothing better than a nice recession with armed citizens, oh the fun the fun.

How is the gun laws working for ya so far? Shame on America, no one needs a loaded gun in their home, and most times as facts state, that weapon will be used on someone you know, as let's say family and friends than a theif in the night.

thank you for telling me what i need or don't need.
