Does anyone here married to Arab men ever give their children American/Western names?

Back in Jordan, all of my husbands neices have american names. The boy don't, they have traditional arabic names for the most part. I've heard that its more acceptable to give a girl an american name than it is for a boy. The name we choose isn't arabic, it's armenian and he is fine with it. He would have been fine with a western name as well but I was already set on Taleen.

BTW, after looking at this list not all the names are Islamic. There are several names in there commonly used by Christian Arabs. I think alot of these names just fall under general Arabic names.

While I was kicking around that site, I found something interesting on the "Introduction" page:

DRESS

Muslims must cover their body properly and decently. No particular dress is recommended.

For men, covering from the naval to the knees is a must For women, covering the whole body except the face and hands is compulsory. A woman must not wear a dress which rouses man’s base feelings, e.g. transparent, skin-tight or half-naked dress Pure silk and gold are not allowed for men Simplicity and modesty are encouraged

So right after it says no particular dress is recommended, it has recommendations.

There is a sizeable Armenian population in Jordan. :star:

Ahhh. OK. Yeah, I asked him about it when you first posted and then asked him if he had ever heard of it before. That's when he said he had 2-3 students with that name, and he recognized it as "normal" or at least a lot more normal than things I throw at him, like Violet.
