If I paid all this money for my finacee to come here only for us experience the same kind of poverty in many areas where she came from, I'm going to be pissed.

This possibility has motivated me to finally make an earnest attempt to learn Vietnamese so I can Immigrate there. They have 9% annual growth! I can imagine what the neighbor's will be saying: "Poor Thuy, he only married her for a Visa and she's to blinded by love to see it"!

I like it. We are keeping her country as our backup though I agree it would be surreal if I got a visa there after this whole process.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The hybrids which will start to make more sense are the next gen coming out which you will plug in. These will be able to travel up to 40 miles solely using an electric motor, until the next recharge.

Plus there is also talk of compressed air cars coming out soon which get 100mpg..

I drive a ten year old cheap, compact car and will continue to do so until it kicks it. I can get away with filling up just about once a week (although it's a little more frequently now that hubby works 20 miles away).

I definitely plan to buy a hybrid, but I've heard that there are very long waiting lists to buy these cars. Is this true?

to save money or feel good?

I've only driven two cars in my 17 years of driving...a Ford Escort and a Ford Escort wagon. So if it looks like it'll save me money to drive a hyrbid, then I will buy one, however I realize that te costs of hybrids are higher. To be honest, I'm very new to the whole car buying business, since obviously my history of driving is only with a car just one step above the Yugo.

40 miles between charges is hardly practical. I drive over twice that in a day at least twice a week. And driving vacations (such as L.A. to Vegas, to say nothing of even further) would be impossible. Plus, the electricity has to come from somewhere, and not all areas generate electricity with more environmentally-friendly hydro-electric or nuclear.

40 miles then it kicks into gasoline, unless you recharge..

Cool.

Here's a hybrid calculator you can use to help you decide.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
